Macmillan LogoWe are getting ready to launch our exciting new ‘Macmillan One Stop Support at Coping with Cancer’ project, in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support. The new programme will take place on Monday mornings at Helen Webb House.

As part of this innovative new programme of support for people living with and beyond cancer, we have the following volunteer opportunities. Complementary Therapists

Massage.jpgWe are looking for complementary therapists qualified in aromatherapy massage, Indian head massage, reflexology or reiki to provide treatments at these group sessions. The time commitment is 3 hours, weekly or fornightly, on a Monday morning. (We also always have opportunities for volunteer complementary therapists at our outreach groups or to provide treatments in clients homes or at Helen Webb House - click here for our general volunteering opportunities)

Macmillan One Stop Support at Coping with Cancer Group Supporters

We are also looking for Group Supporters. The role involves helping to make refreshments, chatting to clients attending the programme and supporting clients to access and use our information centre. The time commitment is 3 hours, weekly or fortnightly, on a Monday morning.

Drivers

drivers.bmpWe need volunteer drivers to help clients to attend the programme, where they do not have their own transport. For this fulfilling role, you’ll need a driving licence and your own car - we’ll reimburse your expenses. We’ll need your help on a Monday morning. (We also currently need drivers for Tuesday's Asha Group between 11.30am and 2.30pm, and our Patient & Carers Group, Alternate Fridays between 12.00 noon and 3.30pm. The application process is the same.)

Volunteer Specialists: Welfare Benefits, Food and Diet, Health and Fitness, Employment and Cancer

We are seeking volunteers with specialist knowledge or exmperience in the above areas, to provide short information sessions to groups and 1:1 advice on these topics as part of the programme. The time commitment is 3 hours, twice during a six week period.

One Stop Support Volunteer Specialist - Food and Diet: Information about the role

Group Leader: Relaxation / Meditation, Group Leader: Craft and Group Leader: Gentle Exercise

We are also looking for volunteers to lead sessions in relaxation (for example breathing techniques, Tai Chi or meditation, and also gentle exercise. The time commitment is for half an hour to an hour, on Monday mornings, on a rota basis with other volunteers.

Other Support

Finally for One Stop Support, we are looking for volunteers who can offer 'treats' to clients (like manicures), and a counsellor to lead group emotional support sessions.
