Practical and emotional support for anyone affected by cancer

Sainsbury's Belgrave Road 25th Birthday Celebrations

Published on 25/01/2012

Sainsbury’s Belgrave Road, who are supporting Coping with Cancer as their chosen charity of the year 2011/12, celebrated their 25th birthday on Friday 20th January.

Employees past and present, managers, both local and regional, assembled at the store to celebrate 25 years of trading, with a speech from City Mayor, Peter Soulsby, cake, champagne and members of the CWC Choir to sing "Happy Birthday".

Coping with Cancer were invited to hold a bag-packing day from 10.00am through to 3.00pm and a team of willing volunteers were assembled, who packed, chatted and promoted the charity throughout the day. Our thanks go to Coping with Cancer volunteers Beulah, Teresa, Denise, Hope, Adele and Jo, who were supported by a team from Freeth Cartwright Solicitors, Leicester (who are also supporting Coping with Cancer as one of their chosen charities this year)– namely Sally, Teresa, Jade, Emma, Harjit, Hasmita, Rita and Jennie, all kindly released from their day-jobs by their generous managers!  Over the five hours £343.16 was raised - well done and thanks again for all your help.

Alongside the emptying of the till-side collection tins, Jane Hagreen was also presented with a cheque for £809.82 by Store Manager, Guy Swindells, who made a passionate speech to assembled colleagues about the work we do. Sainsbury's Bag PackThis money was raised through a collection at their car park on the Diwali lights switch-on evening last October, and through other customer donations.

All in all, over £3,600 has been raised via this store so far during our year as their nominated charity.
